Clearances

Non-registered volunteers over the age of 18, which includes, for example, parents, relatives, and friends, who provide care, supervision, training or control of a youth member in lieu of parental control and/or have regular and repeated contact (routine interaction) with youth members that is integral to the volunteer activities are required to submit the clearances, as well.

The 3 Steps to getting Clearances

1.) FBI Fingerprint Based Clearance 

Take your registration form to an IndentoGO Center. Locations can be found here: www.identogo.com/locations/pennsylvania

OR Disclosure Statement

Volunteers who have resided in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the past 10 years can submit a Disclosure Statement Application for Volunteers in lieu of the Fingerprint based FBI Clearance

2.) Child Abuse History Clearance

• Visit PA's Child Welfare Portal

• Click to Log In if you have an existing account or on Create Individual Account for new Clearance requests.

• Work through the questions. The department will use your Social Security number to search the statewide central register to determine whether you are listed as the perpetrator in an indicated or founded report of child abuse.

• You will receive a certificate to upload or submit to the Council.

3.) Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance

Visit the PA Access to Criminal History Portal

• Click on New Record Check.

• Agree to the Terms and Conditions.

• Follow the prompts.

Needs redone every 5 years

If you are a new volunteer and uploading your clearances electronically, please attach a note to the BSA Adult Application when you submit it explaining that you have already uploaded your clearances to the council. The Registrar will then confirm receipt of your clearances by referencing the BSA PA Record clearance database.

Once you have received all three Clearances, submit them to the Council.
